If you do ANY kind of cooking in your kitchen, you will need a cutting board eventually. While cutting boards come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colors, they also come in different materials. In this article I want to talk about wood cutting boards for your kitchen. In my opinion wood and plastic seem to be the most commonly used materials and I know they are the 2 materials I like the best. Glass is also a possibility, but the reason I don’t like glass is because it can dull your knife pretty quickly and, lets be honest, glass cutting boards are NOISY! Below you will see some of the best wood cutting boards for your kitchen.
I am also very particular about any boards I use. I don’t like lips, I don’t like motes, I don’t like weird curved edges. They get in the way. Just give me a plain old flat wood board any day of the week. But I know some people are different so I will include a few “decorative” options as well.
Prep Series Cutting Boards by Epicurean, 3 Piece, Natural
This is a good option for those of you that cut different quantities of items OR you want to use each board for a different food and don’t want to worry about cross-contamination. You could use the smaller one for something like herbs and garlic, shallots, green onions, etc. The medium one could be for fruits and vegetables. The bigger one could be used strictly for meat. These do come in 2, 4, 5 pieces as well. If you don’t like “natural” there is also a black color as well.
“Cutting on an epicurean cutting board will not dull your knives because the surface will score slightly, which helps it protect your knife’s edge. Epicurean has a company eco initiative commitment. Vremi VRM020022N Cutting-Boards, Red
Now these do have a little decorative edge to them – they also have a hole that you can use to pick the board up easier, or hang it. This one is red, but there is also a green color. This one also includes 3 different sizes – the biggest one is HUGE and specifically meant for carving roasts, shredded beef, steak, ribs, etc.

Architec GWAT16N Gripperwood Cutting Board, Acacia, 12′ X 16′ X .78′
I think that we have already ascertained that I like modern stained woods. This is Acacia, which has a sort of walnut coloring to it; its a deep brown, it has no edges, no weird indents or grooves. Its just a regular old board and definitely one that I would personally buy! This one also has soft grip feet on the bottom so you can cut away and not have to worry about the board sliding all over the place.
“The Architec gripper acacia cutting board is functional and beautiful. Extra durable cutting surface with a rich, warm grain. Food safe moisture seal makes this board an ultimate low maintenance wood board. Soft feet grip counter top. Patented process permanently secures gripper feet inside of wood (no glue).”
Michigan Maple Block AGA01812 18 x 12 x 1.75″ Maple Cutting Board
Now this is an option if you would prefer to leave the board out rather than put it back away in a cabinet or a drawer. Its attractive enough to leave out, plus it will add some height and level differences between your counter and the board itself. It has a nice mineral finish and its in maple. Maple is known to be one of the toughest and most durable wood cutting boards for your kitchen. This is definitely one to consider – and its less than $50. Considering this is maple and its LESS than $50, its safe to say this is going to be hard to beat when it comes to wood cutting boards for your kitchen.

Teak Cutting Board – Rectangle Carving Board With Hand Grip (24 x 18 x 1.5 in.)
Another very attractive wood board. This one is made from teak – which is also a very strong material. It works, feels and looks a lot like bamboo. “The rectangle carving board with hand grips by teakhaus is part of the series nicknamed “the last cutting board you’ll ever need” by cook’s illustrated magazine & america’s test kitchen. This edge grain board is known for its durability and longevity.
